Labour ministry launches satellite job info portal in Manchester
Residents of Manchester who are seeking employment will now be able to utilise the government’s Labour Market Information System in the parish.
The labour ministry says a satellite station has been established at the offices of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce where persons can go to access its job-matching Internet-based facility free of cost.
This forms part of a strategic move by the labour ministry to enhance the information-sharing system and expand its reach to more Jamaicans, particularly in rural areas.
The arrangement was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding last week between the labour ministry and the chamber of commerce during a meeting at the Mandeville Hotel, in Manchester.
Labour Minister Derrick Kellier said the co-operation with the Manchester Chamber of Commerce is the first of three public-private sector partnerships his ministry will embark on to increase awareness of the system.
He called it a win-win situation for job seekers, employers and the government.
