Prior to 'bad gas saga' petroleum sector had been neglected by government – JGRA

The Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA) says there are serious gaps in the stewardship of the petroleum trade.

According to the association’s president, Leonard Green, the Energy Ministry headed by Philip Paulwell has done a lot to address the bad gas saga.

He says the minister has done a good job of handling the crisis.

However, Green says prior to the bad gas saga the petroleum sector had been neglected by the government.

The JGRA president says more should have been done beforehand to safeguard the sector from these kind of shocks.

Greene says his members will not rest until the necessary measures are put in place.

The Bureau of Standards Jamaica has confirmed that fuel from Rubis’ main petrol storage facility at Rockfort in eastern Kingston, is contaminated.

However, Rubis has reportedly challenged the BSJ's findings.

BSJ began conducting tests following several complaints by motorists whose vehicles were affected by the tainted petrol.
