PSOJ initiates steps to reveal political contributions

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) says the organisation welcomes the short campaigning window.
President of the PSOJ William Mahfood says the period between last night's announcement and the February 25 polls will ensure that the process ends quickly with minimal disruption to the business activity.

The PSOJ, says it has initiated steps to have its members disclose their funding to political parties and candidates.
PSOJ president, William Mahfood says the organisation has been in discussions with the Electoral Commission of Jamaica on the disclosure of private sector contributions.
He says both organisations are to finalise the means through which the members will disclose their contributions.
In the past, GraceKennedy, Scotiabank, Jamaica Money Market Brokers, Sagicor, and the ICD Group - declared contributions totalling $69.5 million to the People's National Party and the Jamaica Labour Party.
Last December, the Parliament approved legislation regulating campaign financing.
