Youth Views: Election Vox Pop

Days before Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller announced February 25, as the date for the next general election, our news team visited the campuses of the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) and the University College of the Caribbean (UCC) where we asked students:

"What issues do you believe will determine how Jamaicans vote in the next general election?

UCC STUDENTS

Nanny Brown
"The issue of the dead babies. The comments made were insensitive and I think that will influence how people vote."

Chantal Pinnock

"I think ... one of the greatest concerns would be the health-care issue."

Shevel Hylton

"Two issues for me would be the finance of the country and the health sector because this is causing a great problem in the country."

CMI STUDENTS

Rakeem Thomas
"I think diehard supporters. This is a country where persons are die hard supporters and they fail to hear what the other party has to say, they just go for that party and that is what they are sticking with."

John-Paul Bramwell

"Well, for me, it will be the diehard culture and a culture of short-term planning."

Danielle Grant

"For me, it will be how well the politicians can make the empty promises look pretty."
