Regional military exercise enters Phase Two, launched at JDF headquarters
The second phase of a multi-country military exercise focusing on transnational crime was launched this morning at Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) headquarters in Kingston.
The event called Exercise Tradewinds will run from today until next week Tuesday and is being sponsored by the United States Southern Command military unit.
Deputy Chief of Staff for the US Marine Corps Forces South, Colonel David Carbonero, said the exercise is important to strengthen regional security.
Meanwhile, head of the JDF, Major General, Antony Anderson, said Jamaica was proud to be hosting the event for a second time.
Phase One of the exercise ended last week in Grenada.
It focused on humanitarian and disaster relief operations.
More than 18 countries and 1,000 military officials are participating in the exercise.
