GEORGE'S VALLEY, Manchester:
The alleged gunman shot dead by the police in the parish early this morning has been identified as 25-year-old Shane Johnson, a man who was on bail for firearm charges.
The police say Johnson had been on bail for the past month.
An intra-tech sub-machine gun was reportedly taken from him.
Johnson was among four gunmen who reportedly opened fire on individuals leaving a party in Alligator Pond, South Manchester on Sunday night.
The police say they received intelligence and trailed the men to George's Valley where they lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a wall.
The police say the gunmen got out and opened fire on them.
They say they returned fire hitting Johnson killing him on the spot.
The Independent Commission of Investigations is probing the incident.
