FLOW hosts Life Savers Summer Camp

Some 150 children of members of the essential services were recently presented with school supplies courtesy of FLOW.

This was done through a programme organised by St John Ambulance. FLOW presented $300,000 in book vouchers as well as backpacks and stationery for the beneficiaries.

The students participated in a summer first-aid and safety camp geared at equipping relatives of 'first responders' with critical life-saving skills and knowledge in the event that they are called upon to act during an emergency.

Alison Christie-Binger, executive director of St John Ambulance, said the programme is part of a national thrust to train and equip 500 youngsters across the island.

Some participants as young as age six are now "in a better position to offer life-saving and recovery assistance to their peers, families and communities, especially in the absence of their parent(s), who will often be required to be away from home during a national crisis".

Students completing the programme have gained exposure to offering first-aid assistance for incidents of choking, wounds, blood loss, as well as other practical skills.
