#MappingMATTHEW: Shoppers flock Corporate Area supermarket for Hurricane supplies

Before the stroke of 6 o'clock this morning, shoppers started to flock one of the Corporate Area's‎ largest supermarkets, MegaMart, to pick up last-minute supplies as Hurricane Matthew nears Jamaica.

By 6.30 a.m, the parking lot was full, vehicles spilled over onto t‎he streets and even more shoppers had flooded the store.

Among them was dancehall entertainer, Desmond 'Ninjaman' Ballentine.

Ballentine says he is taking very seriously, the threat of Hurricane Matthew.

"From it's a storm, you have to be prepared. You go and shop for all the necessary things that you need ‎so that whenever the storm pass if the country shut down for a while you have all the stuff you need until the country up and running again," he said.

Latest weather forecast indicate that Hurricane Matthew‎ weakened slightly overnight from category five to four.

This is still a very powerful system with the eye slated to pass just east of the island, Sunday into Monday.

Hurricane-force winds will affect some parishes as well as tropical storm-force winds.

The Met Service has forecast up to 16 inches of rainfall and warns that there could be flooding and landslides.
