Tropical Storm Nicole forms in the Atlantic, no threat to land

This NOAA satellite image taken today at 9:45 AM EDT shows, to the northeast, newly formed Tropical Storm Nicole. Nicole has winds of fifty miles an hour and will pose no threat to land. Hurricane Matthew located between eastern Cuba and Haiti. Hurricane Matthew is currently a Category Four Hurricane and is packing winds of one-hundred forty-five miles an hour. Matthew will continue to move slowly to the north and will pass into the southern Bahamas late tonight.

Another storm has formed in the Atlantic.

The Meteorological Service says at 11 o’clock this morning the centre of Tropical Storm Nicole was located 840 kilometres northeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Tropical Storm Nicole is not a threat to Jamaica.

Nicole is moving toward the northwest near 13 kilometres per hour and a turn toward the north-northwest with a decrease in forward speed is expected over the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 85 kilometres per hour with higher gusts.

The Met Office says little change in strength is forecasted for the next day or so, followed by gradual weakening.
