JPS Bogue plant to start using LNG in two weeks

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that the full utilisation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) plant in Bogue, St James will begin in two weeks.

He made the announcement at this morning's opening of the 14th Organsiation of Caribbean Utility Regulators conference in St James.

Holness says the Office of Utilities Regulation had approved the funding for construction of the Bogue plant, that is now facilitating the diversification of Jamaica's energy sources.

On Monday, The Gleaner reported that the LNG arrived at the Port of Montego Bay in St James on Saturday. 

The supplies will be channelled from the feeder ship, Anthony Veder, through pipelines to JPS's Bogue plant.

JPS Chief Executive Officer, Kelly Tomblin, described the arrival as a historic moment.

She noted that LNG would play a key role in transforming the energy sector, while supporting industrial development and economic growth.

American company New Fortress Energy, the cargo supplier and JPS partner, has invested US$750 million in the construction of its LNG terminal.
