JIS regrets passing of former executive director

Former Executive Director of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) Winnifred Risden-Hunter is dead. She died on January 24 after a brief illness. She was 86 years old.

The JIS has expressed regret over the passing of the woman who was affectionately called "Winnie". The JIS says that Risden-Hunter served the organisation from 1984-1989.

She had a long and distinguished career in communications, serving as director at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation; member of the Editorial Advisory Committee, Jamaica Observer; and at Breakfast Club, KLAS Radio.

She was also director of public relations at the Jamaica Tourist Board from 1973 to 1977. Risden-Hunter served as press secretary to former Prime Minister Edward Seaga from 1982-1984.

In recognition of her service, she was awarded the Commander of the Order of Distinction in 1988.

Risden-Hunter leaves behind nephew Peter Risden; niece Suzanne Risden Foster; grandnieces and nephews Luke, Rachel, Victoria, Ethan, Katherine; and friends.
