Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that the police will be stepping up preventative detention of people as a way to deal with the country’s rising crime problem.
In making the announcement at a press conference this afternoon, Holness said the government will be taking a zero tolerance approach to domestic violence, sexual grooming of minors and sexual abuse.
He said preventative detention would allow the police to arrest a person they have reason to believe might commit a crime.
The Cabinet met for two hours this afternoon to discuss the measures which were recommended by the National Security Council.
