US had to act against Syria, says Professor Basil Wilson
There is now increasing international attention on the United States after its decision last night to send 59 Tamohawk missiles to the Syrian air base from which a chemical attack was launched this week.
The chemical attack killed dozens of Syrians including children.
This is the first direct American assault on the Syrian government since that country’s civil war began six years ago.
Professor of Political Science at Monroe College in New York, Basil Wilson, says the Donald Trump administration was correct to have carried out the air strikes on the military base.
The US has blamed the government of President Bashar al-Assad for what it has called a cruel act on its own people.
Al-Assad has denied the claim.
Professor Wilson says the US’s response was appropriate as it has to send a strong message.
However, Professor Wilson acknowledges that there will be the likely implications for the US.
Professor Wilson was speaking on Independent Talk on Power 106 FM this morning.
