No resignations ... Opposition senators to remain under Phillips' leadership
Opposition senators are to remain under new Leader of the Opposition Dr Peter Phillips.
Leader of Opposition Business in the Upper House, Senator Mark Golding, says the senators met and discussed the matter last week.
Senator Golding says following those talks he also met with Phillips.
He said based on the discussions opposition senators decided to remain.
Political Commentator Dr Paul Ashley had recommended the resignation of the eight Opposition Senator appointed on the recommendation of Portia Simpson Miller after the 2016 General Election.
He contended that the resignations would give Phillips free rein to reappoint them if he so desires.
Phillips took over from Portia Simpson Miller as Opposition Leader last Monday.
He also took over the leadership of the People’s National Party from Simpson Miller who did not seek re-election.
Phillips was quoted in yesterday’s Sunday Gleaner as saying that he has no need to change the senators to put his stamp on the party infrastructure.
