Plans delayed as cops yet to identify headquarters for second police division in St James

The Jamaica Constabulary Force is still trying to determine a location for the headquarters for the new police division to be created in St James.

The plan to divide the parish into two police divisions was announced last September by then Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams.

He said the Police would be pursuing the change to enable the security force to better tackle crime in the parish.

However, approximately six months later, the change has not been made.

Speaking during an online crime forum organised by The Gleaner last week, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of crime, Ealan Powell, said the plan is still on.

However, he said it’s been a challenge trying to find a headquarters for the new division:

Up to last week Wednesday, St James had recorded 66 homicides for 2017, compared to 54 for the corresponding period in 2016.
