JUTC shortens route due to massive breakaway at Lawrence Tavern
The state-run Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) has been forced to abridge its service on route Number 54 which plies Half-Way-Tree/Border in St Andrew, according to a statement from the company yesterday.
Recent heavy rains across the island caused severe damage to a number of roads and infrastructure, including the Lawrence Tavern corridor.
JUTC said the roadway has been severely eroded and poses safety and security risks.
"There is a massive breakaway just before arriving at Lawrence Tavern. According to the National Works Agency, the erosion to that section of the roadway is continuous," the statement said.
"As a result, the JUTC has been terminating its service at Temple Hall and shall continue to do so until the road is rehabilitated."
