Justice Minister Delroy Chuck is urging Caribbean legislators to become advocates for people affected by HIV and AIDS in the region.
Addressing a five-day PANCAP Regional Parliamentarians Forum in Kingston yesterday, Chuck told his colleagues they had a duty to lead in protecting the weak and vulnerable.
The Justice Minister pointed to the high rate of HIV/AIDS in the region and suggested that Caribbean legislators may need to engage stakeholders, including faith-based organisations to encourage them to rethink their positions on HIV/AIDS.
Regional parliamentarians are expected to use the forum to assess their roles in promoting healthy living and well-being for all ages in the Caribbean.
The forum ends on June 3.
