Jamaican man tests negative for Cholera – preliminary CARPHA report

Chief Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health, Dr Winston De La Haye, says a preliminary report from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in Trinidad has indicated that samples from a Jamaican patient has tested negative for Cholera.
Winston De La Haye says the ministry was advised of the finding today.

He says a formal final report is to be submitted to Jamaica next week.
The sample was taken from a man who was found with bacteria in his blood.
Preliminary investigations had indicated that the bacteria is a form of Vibrio Cholerae.
The man was re-admitted to hospital about two weeks ago with a fever following recent bowel surgery.
The health minister said as a precautionary measure, the man was isolated and samples for further testing were taken and sent to CARPHA.
De La Haye says the man continues to receive appropriate medical treatment.
