'I will be watching you', Portia warns Angela

Former member of parliament for South West St Andrew Portia Simpson Miller, has warned Angela Brown Burke, who is looking to succeed her in the constituency, that she will have a serious task in serving the people.

Brown Burke, who is an outsider, was selected as the party’s representative for the constituency in a selection conference yesterday.

The senator and PNP vice president gained 595 votes to Audrey Smith Facey’s 502.

Following the selection exercise, Simpson Miller bid farewell to the constituency, but she warned Brown Burke that she would be keeping a close eye on the constituency.

Simpson Miller also admonished Brown Burke to continue the education programmes she started in the constituency.

Earlier, Brown Burke, whose campaign message was‘Portia’s Choice, the People’s Choice’, admitted that her chances would have been “extremely difficult” without Simpson Miller's support.

Brown Burke is councillor for the Norman Gardens Division in the Kingston Eastern and Port Royal constituency represented by Phillip Paulwell and Smith Facey the councillor for the Payne Land Division in St Andrew South West.

Brown Burke is expected to announce her resignation as a senator and councillor after Prime Minister Andrew Holness announces the date for a by-election.
