PM says public sector transformation process dragging on, but 2009 repeat won't be allowed

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says he's not satisfied with the pace of public sector transformation.

Speaking at a quarterly press briefing this morning at the Office of the Prime Minister in St Andrew, Holness says the process has been dragging on.

He pointed out that the transformation process had started in 2009 but it dragged on until it fell off the radar.

Holness says he will not allow that to happen this time around.

He says the agencies and departments for closure or merger have already been identified and the level of redundancies determined.

The prime minister says the issue of performance pay is something also being looked at as part of improving compensation to public sector workers.

Public sector transformation forms part of the benchmarks set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to reduce the amount of money the government spends on public sector wages.
