Man accused of attacking schoolgirl with machete fatally shot
A 37-year-old Clarendon man was fatally shot by police yesterday in the May Pen town centre after he allegedly attacked a schoolgirl with a machete.
Dead is Damian Briscoe, a labourer, of Bucks Common in the parish.
Reports are that a police corporal was driving a service vehicle about 1:45 p.m. along Sevens Road in May Pen when he was informed that a man of unsound mind attacked a schoolgirl with a machete.
The corporal requested assistance from a constable and the two proceeded to where the attack alleged took place.
Upon arrival at the scene, Briscoe was seen with a machete and a knife, the police ordered him to drop the weapons, but he reportedly swung the machete at them.
Reports are that a single shot was fired in his direction and he fell to the ground.
He was taken to the May Pen Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
