Shaw: Human underdevelopment is Jamaica's biggest problem

Finance Minister Audley Shaw says the biggest problem affecting Jamaica is human underdevelopment, not crime.

Addressing the launch of the May Pen Business Improvement District in Clarendon yesterday, Shaw said the issues with crime and violence, lack of economic growth and low productivity are due to the failure of successive governments to plan and deliver policies and programmes that facilitate the development of the country's human capital.

Shaw says it is time for politicians, businesspersons, parents and civil society to get their act together for the benefit of the country.

He says the politicians alone cannot bring about the change that is necessary to move the country forward.
