Foreign Affairs Ministry confirms teen of Jamaican heritage was killed in Florida school shooting
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is confirmed that a student of Jamaican heritage was killed in last week’s school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
She is 17-year-old Helena Ramsey.
The shooter shot and killed 17 students.
In a statement, foreign affairs minister, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, expressed condolences to the family of the dead Jamaican teen as well as to the families and friends of the other victims.
Parkland, a largely residential area to the west of Broward County, has a small population of Jamaicans or persons of Jamaican heritage.
Johnson Smith said her ministry is in constant communication with Jamaica’s Consulate General in Miami and the Country and Federal offices.
