EOJ trying to prevent voting delays
The Electoral Office of Jamaica says it will be trying to prevent long delays when voters in St Andrew North West and the Norman Gardens local government division turn out to cast their ballots today.
Some 30,216 electors are eligible to vote in St Andrew North West.
That’s 1,187 more than were eligible ahead of the February 2016 general election.
The electronic voter identification and ballot issuing system will be used in today's by-elections but deputy director of elections, Earl Simpson, says the EOJ is prepared to reduce mistakes.
He notes that the constituency is not one where the EOJ has used the system before.
In the meantime, political commentator, Troy Caine is predicting a low voter turnout for the St Andrew North West constituency.
The polls opened at 7 o’clock and will close at 5 o’clock this afternoon.
