Mandela delays this weekend to facilitate laying of high voltage cables
The National Works Agency (NWA) says motorists using the westbound lane of the Mandela Highway should brace for slight delays this weekend.
In a release issued this morning, NWA Communication Manager, Stephen Shaw, said traffic could be impacted in the vicinity of the Jamaica Public Service Company's (JPS) Duhaney sub-station.
He said the work to be undertaken this weekend is a continuation of similar efforts last weekend to facilitate the laying of conduits to accommodate JPS’ high voltage cables.
The cables are being put underground in order to facilitate the retirement of wooden poles that are within the right of way of the expanded Mandela Highway.
Shaw says the exercise will begin at 9 p.m Saturday night and is expected to be completed by midday on Sunday.
The motorists are being urged to obey the instructions of flag-persons and posted warning signs and to use alternative routes where possible, in order to reduce the likelihood of delays getting into and out of the city of Kingston.
