JPS to install 100,000 smart metres this year
Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) president and CEO Emanuel DaRosa, has announced that the light and power entity will be installing 100,000 smart metres islandwide this year.
DaRosa says this will cost $2.4 billion and forms part of the largest capital investment for the JPS in a single year.
The JPS says the smart metres will help to improve service reliability and allow for remote connection and reading.
The company also says the roll-out of 100,000 smart metres is in keeping with its goal to further modernise the grid, ensure system reliability and lower costs.
What the smart metres do
*Alert JPS when power supply has been interrupted
*Help to reduce the incidence of estimated bills
According to the JPS, currently, over 700 million smart metres have been installed worldwide.
