Meeting of PNP councillors changes nothing, says Mayor
Morant Bay Mayor Michael Hue is describing yesterday's controversial meeting of People’s National Party (PNP) councillors at the St Thomas Municipal Corporation as just that — a PNP caucus.
During the meeting, the PNP councillors elected White Horses division councillor, Hubert Williams as chairman and moved a motion of no confidence against Hue.
It happened after the monthly council meeting was adjourned because the PNP's Cedar Valley Division Councillor Marsha Francis refused to honour Hue's order to take her seat.
Hue said the meeting of the PNP councillors cannot affect the status of the St Thomas Municipal Corporation.
"Whatever actions they would have taken is illegal because there was no recording of minutes, there was no clerk and no public servant to be a part of it. It was a meeting five PNP councillors which constitutes a caucus," he said.
Hue also described the behaviour of the PNP councillors as disrespectful.
"You cannot have a meeting without the CEO or after it was adjourned by the chairman,” he insisted.
Hue and Francis got into a heated exchange after she asked to raise a matter of importance.
Hue insisted the matter was not on the agenda and refused to entertain her.
Meanwhile, the mayor said the next sitting of the St Thomas Municipal Corporation is set for the second Thursday of May.
