Businessman freed of rape charge
Businessman Pu John Zeng who was accused of rape by a former female employee was today freed in the St Catherine Circuit Court.
He was found not guilty by a seven-member jury after a three-day trial.
“He is elated and considers this a lesson learnt,” said attorney-at-law Courtney Rowe who represented the businessman.
Prosecutors led evidence that in September last year the businessman and his then female employee went to a hotel along Port Henderson Road in Portmore, St Catherine, popularly known as ‘Back Road’.
The woman alleged that her former boss had sex with her without permission and then gave her $8,000 and told her not to tell anyone.
She later made a report to the Denham Town Police Station.
However, the businessman denied the allegations and accused the woman of trying to extort him for money.
He said he and his accuser agreed to go to the hotel and that he would give her money after they had sex.
He claimed that when they were finished he offered her $8,000 and she began complaining that it was not enough and demanded more.
