The Meteorological Service has extended the Severe Weather Alert until 5 p.m. today.

In a release, the Met Service says a deep Trough west of Jamaica will continue to influence weather conditions across the island.

It says projections are for periods of light to moderate, and at times heavy showers and thunderstorms, to continue affecting the island today through to tomorrow.

The Met Service warned that sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms due to gusty winds. Fishers and other marine interests are being urged to exercise caution.

The Met Service says it will continue to monitor the situation.
