NWC restores operations at plants affected by heavy rains
The National Water Commission (NWC) is reporting that restoration work has now commenced at a number of its water supply facilities that were impacted by the heavy rainfall.
The NWC says so far, several systems in Clarendon, St Catherine, and Rural St Andrew have been brought back into operation.
These include:
CLARENDON:
Hanbury
Woodside
Rhymesbury and Belle Plain
Sevens
Curatoe Hill
Vernamfield
ST CATHERINE:
Spring Village
Cookson
Half Way Tree
Central Village
KINGSTON AND ST ANDREW:
Friendship Brook
Griffin
Harbour River
Hibbert Spring
John Spring
Middleton
Mountain House
Pulpa Spring
Rose Hill
Solas Spring
Stafford Hall
Sugar loaf
Suzie Spring
Violet Bank
NB: There is reduced operations at the Hope Filter Plant as high turbidity levels persist.
In the meantime, the NWC says several other facilities are expected to return to full operation within the next 24 hours (by Wednesday, May 9, 2018), providing that conditions continue to improve.
Meanwhile, the commission reports that the persistent downpour resulted in significant damage to several facilities across a number of parishes that will require extensive cleaning and rehabilitation work.
In addition, it says blocked roadways will cause some delay in accessing facilities and sections of dislocated pipelines that require corrective work.
The NWC says these systems will see a more gradual return to operations and it appealing for continued patience from customers who may experience periods of low pressures or no water conditions until normal operations are restored.
