23yo alleged gang leader fatally shot by the police
The alleged leader of the Compound Gang, based in Gregory Park, Portmore, St. Catherine, 23-year-old Demar Montague, otherwise called ‘Eddie’, was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the police.
The police say the incident happened yesterday morning about 5:30 a.m. in Portland West area in the parish.
According to the police, Montague, who was wanted for shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm, was shot and injured when he engaged lawmen in an exchange of gunfire during an operation in the area.
They say two firearms - a .40 Smith and Wesson pistol and a .38 revolver, a magazine and nine rounds of ammunition – were seized during the incident.
Montague was taken to hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
The matter has been reported to the Bureau of Special Investigations and the Independent Commission of Investigations.
