Clarendon man fined almost $1M on ganja-related charges
A Clarendon man was on Tuesday fined a total of $987,000 after pleading guilty to breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act in the St. Catherine Parish Court.
Twenty-nine-year-old Michael Lee, a labourer of Morgan’s Pass in the parish, was ordered to pay $325,000 or six months for possession of ganja, $652,000 or six months for dealing in ganja and $10,000 or six months for trafficking ganja.
His bail was extended until Monday, September 24, 2018, for him to pay the fines.
It is reported that on Saturday, August 20, 2016 a police team carried out an anti-narcotics operation along the Mandela Highway in St Catherine during which a silver Honda Civic motorcar with three men aboard was stopped and searched.
The police say during the search two knitted bags containing compressed ganja weighing over 100 pounds were found.
All three men were arrested and charged.
On Tuesday, March 27, 2018, the men appeared in court where Lee pleaded guilty and the other two freed.
He was sentenced on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.
