PNP urges members maligned by Manchester MC scandal to take legal action
The People's National Party (PNP) is urging its members whose reputation have been maligned by the corruption scandal at the Manchester Municipal Corporation (MMC) to take legal action.
"The party officers urge the members of the organisation who have been unjustly maligned by the comments in social and traditional media, to take appropriate legal action to protect their reputations," said a statement issued today by the PNP.
The party said based on the facts as currently seen by its officers, "the innuendos and the defamatory comments against the party are not supported and cannot be justified".
According to the Opposition party, it "remains committed to transparency and to the highest standards of integrity which have been the hallmark and tradition of the organisation".
The PNP insisted that it "does not and will not condone or support any form of wrongdoing or illegal behaviour".
It urged those involved in maligning members of the party to cooperate with investigators so that charges can be brought against those involved where there is sufficient evidence.
“We encourage the police to thoroughly and swiftly pursue their investigations and bring charges against anyone where there is sufficient supporting evidence. Let the chips fall where they may," PNP President Dr Peter Phillips said.
The deputy mayor of the MMC, Ervin Facey, and two other personnel from the entity's accounts department resigned earlier this week following allegations of corruption.
The matter is now being investigated by the police.
