Teen killed in Clarendon, driver arrested
The Clarendon Police have taken into custody the driver of the Toyota liteace van which crashed into a parked handcart killing 16-year-old Ivan Taylor, otherwise called Pepper, yesterday afternoon in the vicinity of the Bustamante Highway
It's reported that the teen was loading water bottles into the handcart when the van ran off the road and crashed into Taylor and the cart.
According to the owner of the handcart, Fabian Henry, the crash happened about 5:30.
Henry said he and another man assisted the injured teen to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Taylor's grief-stricken mother, Leonie Jones, told The Gleaner that she collapsed after she saw her son “rolling down the road along with the handcart”.
“A don't know what happen afta dat. Mi bawl till all mi hip get lick…mi fall and go doctor but mi now waan stay down there (hospital),” Jones said.
She said that she felt guilty over her son's death because he was not well and he got out of bed for her to go get water for the family.
“He was a good son. This mawnin when him wake him say 'mommy, come on, you see how mi a walk. Mi just waan go ketch di water and come back come lie down'. Jesus ! come een like mi just waan feel guilty fi know sey a mi just tek di youth outa him bed,” she said.
