Education Ministry reviewing results of mock PEP exams
As plans for the full implementation of the Primary Exit Profile get underway, the Ministry of Education says is currently reviewing the administration of the Mock Performance Task Tests done by grades 4 and 5 students last week.
The ministry says sample test items for grade six are being sent to primary level institutions as of Tuesday, June 26, 2018 and practice questions will be available by July 2, for the grade five curriculum taking the format of the Curriculum Based Test.
In addition, a full publication will be sent to schools with sample questions for all three years of preparation for PEP by September 2018.
The education ministry says the main objectives of the mock test were to ascertain important data on how they respond to this type of test item and the readiness of the system regarding new assessment arrangements for the upcoming academic year.
It says the information is critical to finalising items, helping students to recognise strengths and weaknesses and teachers to shape and adapt their teaching to students’ individual needs.
The ministry says preparation sessions across the island will continue and short videos on PEP are also being made available on social media for persons to access.
Teachers at grades 4 and 5 are currently being trained in the administration of the Performance Task.
Additionally, the ministry says it continues to provide resources to schools to ensure that teachers are fully equipped to implement the National Standards Curriculum (NSC) by engaging students in learning activities which will support the development of 21st century skills.
The National Standards Curriculum (NSC) and the supporting assessment component - the Primary Exit Profile (PEP), Curriculum, instruction and assessment go hand in hand for the success of student achievement. Therefore, full implementation of the curriculum (content and supporting methodology) will ensure students’ readiness for PEP.
