Rain, no problem - Patrons enjoyed jam session at Denbigh

The sudden downpour of rain on Sunday at the Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show in Clarendon had patrons fleeing for shelter. The rains, which lasted almost an hour, saw some seeking refuge at the Wray & Nephew Bar on the showgrounds.

The wait turned out to be a jam session, as the deejay at the controls played some great hits of yesteryear, with patrons jamming to the music.

When the smooth tones of Ernie Smith hit the airwaves with Duppy or a Gunman, it was pandemonium, so much so that the selector had to 'wheel and come again'.

It seemed the 'haul and pull up' couldn't stop as he played songs such as Ram Goat Liver, I Man Born Yah, plus a medley of Gregory Isaacs' and Mighty Diamonds' selections.

By the time the skies cleared and patrons could resume their trek across the grounds, many seemed reluctant to leave the enjoyable distraction the music provided.

One woman who was among those seeking shelter when the downpour started, told The Gleaner she was so happy the rain forced her to that spot.

"I swear this feels like a Rae Town session. Jamaica music sweet bad," she said.
