Intersection at Princess Street and Slipe Pen Road in Kingston to be closed

As at Friday, October 26, the Princess Street-Slipe Pen Road intersection in downtown Kingston will be closed to vehicular traffic in the vicinity of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). The closure, which will come into effect at 9 a.m. on Friday, will last for seven days.

Stephen Shaw, manager of communication and customer services at the National Works Agency (NWA), says the closure is to facilitate critical drainage improvement works in the vicinity of the hospital. He says a storm water drain will be repaired and a defective lateral drain grating will be removed and replaced.

Shaw explains that the works are being carried out to prevent the grating from falling into further disrepair and are being treated as a matter of urgency in the interest of public safety. The project valued at $1.5 million is part of a larger $20 million drainage improvement programme currently being undertaken by the NWA in the parishes of Kingston, St Andrew and St Thomas.

Motorists are being advised to use alternative routes during the closure, and to obey all posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
