Construction to begin soon on Olympic Gardens Police Station - PM
Work is scheduled to begin shortly on the construction of a police station in Olympic Gardens, St Andrew.
Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, who made the announcement, revealed, too, that plans are in place to build a golden age home in the community.
Holness said the police station will serve as a “community security central point.”
“The idea is to create an atmosphere of security where people can do business,” he explained.
The Prime Minister, who is also Member of Parliament for the area, said the police station and the golden age home are among several developments planned for the community.
He said land is now being sought to facilitate construction of the home.
“In urban areas like these, the [family] connections are not always as strong and so there are many elderly persons who need someone to take care of them, and (ensure that) they get regular meals,” Holness reason.
“We will build an institution to do that,” he said.
Holness was speaking at the official handover of the newly-constructed Jamaica-China Goodwill Infant School in west central St Andrew.
It is one of two schools constructed at a cost of US$7.4 million under a cooperation agreement between Jamaica and China.
The other school is in eastern St Thomas.
