JCF fetes children of cops who passed away
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) yesterday feted the children of members who die under tragic circumstances.
The luncheon, held at the Office of the Commissioner of Police on Old Hope Road in St Andrew, was part of the celebration for Police Week 2018.
The event accommodated the families of 13 JCF members who passed away over the last year, with at least 17 children being present.
Among the children of the deceased was 3-year-old Adrian Watkin whose mother Sergeant Icilyn West died from leukemia in January.
He was accompanied by his older sister Shanice Brown who is now his guardian.
“It does make me feel appreciated and remembered; it definitely brought up memories, good memories. I really loved this event and it means a lot to my younger brother and me,” Brown said.
She continued, “I didn’t know that events like these even happened and I was quite surprised when I got the phone call. I’m glad I came.”
Director of Communications for the JCF Nathelie Taylor said the luncheon was included in this year’s week of activities to bring positivity to the lives of family members whose loved ones sacrificed much in service to the nation.
“It’s our way of being a force for good in their lives,” she said.
