Cowards! Skeffery blasts men who abuse women
Opposition Senator Wentworth Skeffery says men who abuse their female partners are cowards.
The pronouncement comes amid a recent spate of deadly attacks against women and young girls in domestic incidents.
“Any man that beat a women fi show say dem in charge dem a coward and we must condemn it and condemn it forcefully,” Skeffery said during his contribution to the State of the Nation Debate in the Senate yesterday.
“I say to the men, women are not your properties, you don’t own them. If it [relationship] is not working just pack your bags and go,” he added.
The lawmaker said women must be loved and protected “physically, emotionally and verbally.
He also sounded a warning to “those big ole crusty men” who are engaging in sexual activities with young girls.
“They must stop it,” he said while charging that the state apparatus has failed young girls who are exploited by older men.
“Every time a young girl, 14 [years-old], 15 and I hear ‘bout eleven and twelve, get pregnant they go to a hospital. So as they rolling into the clinic the police should be rolling out to find them and arrest them,” he said.
Skeffery said the state needs to send a clear message to men who engage in sexual activities with young girls that it is wrong. “The state must have the will to deal with it in a forceful way,” he said.
