On December 20, 2018, the United States legalised hemp, a relative of the ganja plant, which was previously a Schedule 1 controlled substance (the most dangerous class of drugs) in that country. President Donald Trump signed the Hemp Farming Act 2018, effectively decriminalising the hemp plant and reclassifying it for commercial use. Hemp is classified as a cannabis plant with less than 0.3 per cent THC and has very fibrous stems, which have many industrial uses.
