In a bid to improve the distribution of water into sections of the Corporate Area being impacted by unrepairable breaks on its Ferry Water Supply Pipeline and a combination of other issues on its network, the National Water Commission (NWC) will be instituting a series of scheduled supply arrangements to more evenly distribute water in the affected areas.

As a result of the new water supply schedules, NWC customers in the following areas will be supplied with piped water on the following schedules with immediate effect until the situation is rectified.

The NWC says these schedules will better enable the commission to share the water supplies available in the Corporate Area and to more effectively respond to other routine or emergency situations that may develop.

The utility company says every effort is being made to move water across the city so that all customers can benefit from the best service possible, while every effort is being made to fast-track the completion of the new replacement pipeline along the new roadway that was already being constructed.

The NWC says it will also continue to work assiduously with all its partners and stakeholders to restore normal water supply to all areas in the shortest time possible and asks for the continued patience and understanding of its customers.

The agency says the main issues necessitating the scheduled supply of water are:

* Major breaks on the existing Ferry/Mandela transmission pipeline in an area that is effectively inaccessible to the NWC as it is under approximately 35 feet of earth and road construction material. This has deprived the commission of about five million gallons of water per day or more than 10 per cent of the Corporate Areas’ daily water needs and disconnected the major source of supply to many communities.

* Frequent breaks on pipelines along Constant Spring Road as a result of ongoing road construction works often forcing the shut-down of the Constant Spring Water Treatment Plant several times each week.

* Several other unfortunate but more routine occurrences that have compounded the issues stated above.
