Special 'Hero Duck' capes for Sagicor Sigma Run in memory of Elva Ruddock
Special limited edition 'Hero Duck' capes are to be introduced at this year's Sagicor Sigma run in honour of late comedienne Elva Ruddock.
Ruddock who served as the start line emcee at the Sigma Run for the past five years, lost her battle with lupus disease in 2018.
This year, the charity run, which is in its 21st year, is aiming to raise $52 million for three beneficiaries: The Lupus Foundation of Jamaica, the May Pen Hospital Neonatal Unit and the Diabetes Association of Jamaica.
‘Hero Duck’ is a nod to the hilarious and often-recounted story of when a cashier misspelled Elva’s name ‘E. Ruddock’ as ‘Hero Duck’ on an invoice, said Alysia White, Assistant Vice President, Group Marketing, Sagicor Group Jamaica.
"Elva was a big part of our Sigma Run Race day execution; she brought lots of light, love and laughter to the event and energised our participants at the start line before they began their 5K journey”, said White who is also the team lead for the Sigma Run.
One of Elva’s close friends Christopher 'Johnny' Daley will be the new start line emcee for the run, scheduled for Sunday February 17 in New Kingston.
The capes will be sold for $1,000.
