Taxi operator shot by security guard at tax office in Manchester

A 28-year-old taxi operator is under police guard in hospital after he allegedly attacked a security guard on the compound of the Mandeville tax office in Manchester on Monday morning.

The accused, who is of a Mount Prospect distinct address in the parish, is said to be in serious but stable condition.

“We understand that this is not his first attack on the security guard," a police investigator told The Gleaner.

"On the 23 of January the same taxi operator came to the tax office to renew his driver’s licence and we understood that he was in the process of penetrating the line when he was cautioned by the said security guard.

“We learnt that on that same day he attacked and threatened the security guard and the dispute was quelled only when administrators at the tax office came out and threatened the taxi operator to call in the police.

“This is an ongoing issue," the investigator further stated.

It is reported that about 9:30 this morning the security guard was standing on the compound of the tax office talking with a group of people when he was attacked by the taxi operator who was reportedly armed with a knife.

The security guard reportedly shot him in self-defence, according to the police.

The police were summoned to the scene and the injured man was taken to hospital where he was admitted under police guard.
