People's National Party (PNP) supporters are being whipped into a frenzy at the Port Antonio square, Portland as they prepare to be formally introduced to Damion Crawford, the man down to become the party's candidate for the March 25 by-election.

The supporters clad in orange have been dancing and waving flags to the sounds of traditional political songs.

In between musical exchanges, the comrades have been reminded of their duty to ensure that the seat remains in the winning column for the PNP on election day.

Crawford is being challenged by Ann Marie Vaz, representing the governing Jamaica Labour Party. Both candidates are vying to replace slain MP, Dr Lynvale Bloomfield.

But PNP supporters who gathered at the front of the stage told The Gleaner that the JLP will be stopped in its tracks as it seeks to increase its majority in Parliament.

"If dem think we a give it up so easy, the Labourite dem make a sad mistake. This is PNP country. No Vaz, woman or man can come here to run it off," one supporter sporting the hat of PNP Vice President Dr Wykham McNeil told The Gleaner.

Several big-wigs in the leadership of the PNP have already arrived at this evening's mass rally to include General Secretary Julian Robinson, former Member of Parliament Dean Peart and minority leader in the Senate, Donna Scott Motley.

Crawford, PNP sources have said, will outline his plan for the constituency this evening and present a case as to why he should be the man in charge of the eastern constituency.

PNP President Dr Peter Phillips will also make a presentation tonight.
