Kiwanians build security post at St Ann school
Kiwanis International Division 24, which launched a project last December to build security posts at four primary schools, has started the second such facility at Brown’s Town Infant School in St Ann.
According to lieutenant governor of the division, Donna Coombs, with two security posts now at two schools in St Ann, the first being at Breadnut Hill, the focus will turn to Trinity in St Mary and a yet-to-be-named school in Portland.
The schools will be addressed in successive quarters later this year.
Coombs told The Gleaner that Kiwanis International Division 24 undertook the project as the safety of the children is of major concern to the club.
With just $800,000 being budgeted to build the four security posts, the Kiwanians themselves have been doing the work to reduce costs.
Seventeen members turned out at Brown’s Town Infant School to get the job started, with the aim of completing the task in a timely manner.
Coombs has revealed that recently elected governor of Kiwanis International Division 24 – which encompasses eastern Canada and the Caribbean – Melford Clarke, will visit Jamaica from March 17 to 23.
During his visit, Clarke will attend a mass meeting on the 19th and a charter ceremony on the 23rd, with both events slated to be held in Ocho Rios.
