#EastPortlandBattle | Not true: PNP condemns letter claiming Peter Phillips has resigned
The People's National Party (PNP) has released a statement condemning a fraudulent letter being circulated on social media purportedly announcing the resignation of Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips.
According to the PNP, it is a blatant act of forgery and has been reported to the Office of the Political Ombudsman and the police.
The PNP further said Phillips' signature was forged in the letter which it believes was the work of persons who wish to destroy the PNP and bring the leadership into disrepute.
"The efforts of those who would wish to inflict injury, by whatever means, upon the good character of the party president and create division will not be allowed," said a PNP spokesperson in the statement.
The PNP also said it is carrying out its own investigations and will make the findings public.
The development follows Damion Crawford's by-election defeat to the Jamaica Labour Party's Ann-Marie Vaz in the Portland Eastern by-election today.
"The party wishes to thank the over 9,000 who gave us your vote in the East Portland by-election and we remain grateful to the thousands of Comrades, workers and supporters who ensured a strong performance in the race," the PNP spokesperson said while congratulating Crawford.
The PNP also congratulated Member of Parliament-elect Ann Marie Vaz and wished her all the best in her new role.
However, it said Crawford, in a very short time carried the PNP banner and had a good showing at the finish.
