In celebration of their newly established partnership, the management and members of JN Bank and the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) recently came together for an evening of cocktails and conversation at a mingle held at the JN Fund Managers headquarters in New Kingston.

The event also included the unveiling of the 15 finalists in the inaugural Mr and Miss JTA St Andrew pageant.

The competition, which is being sponsored by JN Bank, will be held at the Stephanie Hall Auditorium in St Andrew tomorrow.

Kaydia Wilks-McCalla, president of the St Andrew chapter of the JTA, said that the contest aims to showcase the talents and skills of Jamaican educators to the general public.

“We want to highlight different aspects of our teachers, to give more persons a chance to see our teachers outside of the classroom, and to get more educators to appreciate their talents outside of their teaching skills,” she said.

The pageant, which is being held under the theme ‘Promoting the Teaching Profession: A Beacon of Hope and Inspiration to Our Nation’, will see contestants being judged on their public awareness and knowledge, creative skills, talents, and confidence.

“At the end of the pageant, a Mr JTA St Andrew and a Miss JTA St Andrew will be crowned,” Mrs Wilks-McCalla informed.

Ryan Parkes, chief of business banking and public sector engagement at JN Bank, welcomed the 15 contestants and stated that JN Bank was proud to be associated with the JTA and its initiatives in and outside of the classroom.

Teachers’ Important Role

“Our teachers play a very decisive and important role in the development of young people to enter all professions; therefore, they play a critical part in the country’s social and economic development. It will also stimulate our economy when we work with our teachers to help them to create sustainable wealth for themselves and their families,” he said.

“Consequently, the JN Bank and JTA union will ultimately benefit our nation. This is a kind of marriage that speaks not only of love, it is also indicative of our commitment to improve the financial management of every member of the JTA.”

Mr Parkes said that under the agreement with the JTA, the aim is to assist Jamaican educators to improve their economic well-being by providing them with tailored products and services to meet their specific financial needs.

The JTA represents approximately 20,000 of the country’s educators.
