More than 30 teachers from across the island recently participated in the LASCO-sponsored Jamaica teacher conference, focusing on health and wealth, held recently at the Munro College Auditorium in St Elizabeth.

The conference, organised by 2018-2019 LASCO Ministry of Education, Youth & Information Teacher of the Year, Amorkard Brown, saw educators receiving valuable information and knowledge with presentations from naturopathic health specialist Dr Duke Atkinson, Sagicor financial adviser Shane Bailey, and Jamaica Teachers’ Association regional officer Clayton Hall.

Under the theme, ‘The Teacher’s Health and Wealth’, Atkinson reiterated that health belongs to the teachers and that the process of health is a mental action. He also shared the importance of eating naturally and breathing properly, which was well received from the participants.

To round out the message of ‘Boosting the Teachers Wealth’, Bailey informed the teachers of the importance of budgeting, investments and goal setting, as well as creating discipline with their finances in turbulent times. In the final presentation of the day, Hall informed the teachers on the new changes to the pension plan.

According to Brown, based on the feedback from the sessions, the presentations were well received.
