Beverly Lopez, former president of the Private Sector Organisation (PSOJ) and the Jamaica Exporters’ Association (JEA), is dead.

Lopez died at her home this morning.

A family friend told The Gleaner moments ago, that her death was confirmed after attempts were made by family members to contact her, to no avail.

“They could not get through to her and when they found her she had already passed,” the family friend explained.

Former president of the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Metry Seaga, expressed sadness at the news, describing her as a true patriot who “served her country well”.

Lopez, a Convent of Mercy Academy Alpha alumni, started her career as a clerk at Desnoes and Geddes. She progressed as a prudent and savvy businesswoman, becoming a two-term president of the influential JEA. She also served as vice president.

Lopez also headed the powerful PSOJ from 2003 to 2006.

In 2002, she was honoured with the Order of Distinction, Commander Class and was conferred with the Order of Jamaica in 2006.
